A volunteer SARS doctor, Fiona Virgo, was mobilised to attend Otis who had developed a life-threatening respiratory condition. The SARS doctor arrived alongside paramedics from the East of England Ambulance Service and provided immediate treatment to enable Otis to breathe.Otis was then quickly transferred to a waiting ambulance. Dr Virgo accompanied him on the journey to hospital and helped manage his airway until he was handed over to the paediatric team at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. After five days of hospital care, Otis had recovered sufficiently to allow him to return home to his family.
“The SARS doctor was amazing and we felt in very safe hands. Otis has made an amazing recovery and is doing really well” said Natalie, Otis’s mother.
